Take a look at images of the 2017 Volvo V90, and you may barely recognize the new wagon. The V90 will join the S90 sedan and XC90 SUV, which have the same Scalable Product Architecture platform and drivetrains. This means that we have a good idea of what to expect from the 2017 V90, and new information from Volvo has given us a few more pertinent details.
2017 Volvo V90 Drivetrain
Considering the S90 and XC90 have the same drivetrains, experts are predicting that the V90 will also have the same options. At the moment, Volvo has only confirmed that there will be an available T8 Plug-In Hybrid system that generates 410 horsepower. Expect to be able to go 31 miles on purely electric power. Those in the field predict that we will also see the T6 engine with its 315 horsepower and the T5 engine with 250 horsepower found on the other “90” models.
Other Volvo V90 Details
We also know that the 2017 V90 will have many of the same features and styling cues as the XC90 and S90. These include an infotainment system with a large touchscreen surrounded by wooden accents. There won’t be many physical controls; instead, you will control nearly everything through the touchscreen. This system will support Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay, so nearly every driver will be able to seamlessly connect their smartphone. There will also be numerous safety systems available, including large animal detection, mitigation for running off road, and even semi-autonomous driving.
