There’s a lot going on in Allentown in October. From model trains to adventurous days out, you’ll want to take in these various exhibits and events. Let’s look at the best of the best when it comes to Allentown’s happenings.
Merchants Square Model Train Exhibit
The Morning Call Newspaper called the Merchant Square Model Train Exhibit “The world’s most amazing model train extravaganza,” and that might be a bit modest.
With more than 40 model trains, 1,000 miniature structures, 30,000 lights, and 18,000 feet of track, this exhibit really a sight to behold. It even has its own rainstorm. Plus, the place is filled with hobbyists that have all kinds of knowledge. Tours take place every half hour, so come by and learn all about trains.

Oktoberfest at SteelStacks
This will be the 7th Annual Oktoberfest at SteelStacks, and it’s going to be huge. It’ll take place on Oct. 6–8 and Oct. 13–15, and there will be authentic German food and beer along with live music. There will also be some ax-wielding lumberjacks and a Beer-lympics competition. The best event is going to be the Hasselhoff-Off. You know many Germans are fans of David Hasselhoff, so it wouldn’t be an Oktoberfest without a Hasselhoff impersonation contest.
Allentown Paper Show
It’s almost time for the biannual Allentown Paper Show. This year’s show takes place on October 7–8. This is the place to go to see old movie posters, sports memorabilia, antique toys, and postcards. You can even find some Civil War items and rare books. If you love the past, you don’t want to miss this unique event. You’ll quickly see why it’s so much fun that once a year isn’t enough.
Indoor Flea Market at Merchants Square Mall
Flea markets are a ton of fun, but it’s not fun dealing with the weather. Get all of the fun of the flea market without the annoying weather by attending the Indoor Flea Market at Merchants Square Mall. The next one is October 7 and 8. You’ll find great deals on antiques and collectibles, and there will be jewelry and clothing as well. It’s free to get in, and with the bargain prices, you won’t have to spend much money to have a blast.
Pocono Whitewater Big Day Out Events
Have a big day out with Pocono White Water. The Pocono Whitewater Big Day Out event has three adventures in one. Go rafting, biking, and hiking if you attend this thrilling event. You’ll start with a breakfast, and after some activities, you’ll enjoy lunch along the river. Book your trip for Oct. 7 or Oct. 21.
