If you enjoy cultural events, then Art @ Night is perfect for you. Designed more for adults, you and your significant other or a close friend can have lunch or dinner at one of the Allentown hotspots. Then, head over to the Allentown Art Museum.
What is Art @ Night?
As part of Art @ Night, you get to enjoy a free tour of the museum. Although this museum offers different tours throughout the year, Art @ Night is held on Thursdays. For the month of August, you should definitely add the 20th to your schedule. The doors will open at 4 p.m. and close at 8 p.m. From 4 to 6 p.m., you can take a self-tour of the museum, including the collections, exhibitions, and unique programs. There also is a guided tour starting at 6 p.m., and both tours are at no charge.
The August. 20th event will feature a talk with Ana Hamilton, a local artist who hails from Cuba. Ana has made a name for herself in the world of art. In fact, she participated in the first cultural exchange with Cuba earlier this year, an event coordinated by the National Association of Women Artists. Whether for educational purposes or because you too have a passion for creating art, you will get a lot of out of the discussion.
Ana’s goal is to encourage women artists in America to meet with Cuban artists as a way of exploring their work. During her presentation, Ana will provide an inside view of current happenings as they relate to contemporary art in her native country. Having not laid her eyes on Havana for almost 50 years, her journey was personal.
More About the Allentown Art Museum
In 1934, a group organized by Walter Emerson Baum, a renowned Pennsylvania impressionist painter, founded the Allentown Art Museum. Over the years, the volume of collections has grown significantly. Today, this museum boasts a collection of more than 13,000 works of art. This museum isn’t just a major regional art institution. It also features a library with over 16,000 titles and an archive with roughly 40 current periodicals. Because of that, the Allentown Art Museum is a vital resource for regional culture.
Along with the Art @ Night, you will discover many additional events and magnificent collections. For a day or evening of leisure, bring a friend along to explore some of the best art collections in the country, including the Frank Lloyd Wright library from the original Francis W. Little House designed by Wright between 1912 and 1915.
