Get the most dependable truck on the market, the Chevrolet Silverado. The annual J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, known as the VDS, was released earlier this year. It confirmed what loyal Allentown Chevy drivers have known for years: The Silverado is incredibly dependable.
Understanding the Ratings
When J.D. Power’s VDS is released, it contains information from models that were released three years ago. That is because it relies on research collected over the course of three years that let auto enthusiasts know which vehicles have proven dependable during this time. The study surveys original owners of the vehicles once they are three years old. The survey includes questions about what was great with their vehicle, whether they had any issues, and whether there are were any problems related to defects or designs. J.D. Power then calculates the Power Circle Ratings based on the survey results, with a score out of 5.
The Chevy Silverado
The Silverado got the top possible Vehicle Dependability Power Circle Rating, a 5 out of 5. It also got the dependability awards for the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment. This honor was given to the 2013 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD models, in particular. The 2013 model year offered several new exterior paint options and was the first version of the Silverado HD to offer a bi-fuel powertrain that can run on compressed natural gas.
What It Means
The Chevrolet Silverado’s status at the head of the pack for dependability proves that it is a solid investment. If you are considering buying a used model, look to the 2013 Silverado 2500HD or 3500HD. If you want a new version, the current 2016 Silverado should have similar dependability ratings and has the bonus of letting you customize it however you want.
