Whether you still have to do some of your holiday shopping or just like browsing amazingly festive items, a trip to Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem should be on your list of things to do. This holiday market has decorations, gifts, and more and is a great way to spend at least several hours.
Market Times and Days
This is year 25 of the Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem, and this one-of-a-kind family event lasts for well over a month. The market opened on Nov. 17 and runs until Dec. 23. Each Thursday to Sunday, the market opens up at 11 a.m. On Thursdays and Sundays, it closes at 6 p.m. but it stays open until 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The only exception is Saturday, Dec. 23, when the market closes at 6 p.m. Keep in mind that this year’s event lasts six weeks, instead of the five it normally runs, giving you more chances to shop.
Admission and Tickets
You can buy your tickets online or at the gate. The daily admission fee is $9 for adults and $5 for kids between 6 and 12 years old. Those under 5 get in for free, as it is for ArtsQuest Members with silver status or above. Bronze ArtsQuest Members get a dollar off. If you plan on heading to the market multiple times, get a season pass, which is $18 for adults, $10 for kids, $16 for adults with ArtsQuest membership, and $8 for kids with membership. Essentially, as long as you plan on visiting the Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem twice, you will break even with the season pass and start saving money on your third visit.
Have Breakfast with St. Nicholas
With an extra ticket and some planning, you and your loved ones can have breakfast with St. Nicholas. This event starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 9, and 16. This is certainly worth the price for those who want to give their children a holiday experience to remember.
What to Buy
One of the highlights is Kathe Wohlfarht, who will have handmade ornaments, collectibles, and nutcrackers all the way from Germany. As you stroll through the event, you will be able to browse the works of more than 150 artisans, including the finest in the country. Head home with handmade goods for yourself or that perfect one-of-a-kind present.
More Than Just Shopping
While many people visit the Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem to go shopping for holiday gifts and more, that is not all the event offers. There is live Christmas music, and you can spot St. Nicholas with his hearty laughter. Or attend a demonstration for ice carving or glass blowing.
