Blackstar Film Festival – August 3rd-6th, 2017
This festival is a special gathering of filmmakers, supporters and enthusiasts who come together every year to screen films and participate in workshops to “expand the vision and understanding of the global black experience and closely related communities of color.” Over 60 films will be shown during this year’s Blackstar Film Festival at venues all across the Philadelphia area. The event will be held August 3rd-6th, 2017 and all access passes are available for purchase. 2nd Street Festival – August 6th, 2017
The Northern Liberties vendors will host the very popular 2nd Street Festival on Sunday, August 6th, 2017. North Second Street will be closed down all afternoon and evening so that festival attendees can enjoy beer gardens, food, workshops, art displays and more. There will also be live music performances from various bands on two separate stages. This a free festival to the public and a great way to spend a Sunday as it offers something for the whole family.
Philadelphia Folk Festival – August 17th-20th, 2017
The Philadelphia Folk Festival returns for its 56th year at Old Pool Farm in Schwenksville. This is Philadelphia’s version of Woodstock and promises fun for attendees of all ages. There will be puppeteers, jugglers, aerialists, storytellers and hands-on crafts in addition to a wide variety of folk musician performances at this festival. Individual day tickets and weekend long passes are available for online purchase to this event.
Opening Of The Oval – Now Through August 20th, 2017
The Oval is a seasonal outdoor “pop-up park” that is located just steps away from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Oval transforms the asphalt around this area into a fun space with games, outdoor movie nights, free fitness classes, mini-golf and more. It’s available to the public five days a week and also features a rotating lineup of food trucks and outdoor beer gardens.
