Even on Tuesdays, the city of Allentown, Pennsylvania, has plenty to offer. Regardless if you are looking for something to do outdoors or indoors, you will never run out of options. Whether you live here or plan to visit, you and friends or family members will never run out of fun things to see and do. Following are just a few examples of what you might add to your schedule.
Cooling Down in the Heat
A trip to the Allentown Spray Parks is a great destination for the entire family. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age. Especially when trying to beat the heat this summer, the multiple motion-activated sprays offer an ideal way to stay cool. You can watch your kids jump around in the sprays or join them for great family fun. You can visit the Spray Park at Bucky Boyle Park or the one located at the 5th and Allen Spray Park, both in Allentown. Although there is no designated parking, you will have no problem finding a place within walking distance.
Tubing on Tuesdays
Another way to beat the summer heat is with tubing on Tuesdays at the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary. Located near Allentown in Emmaus, this sanctuary is open for people ages 4 and up. Tubing Tuesdays include a refreshing float down the Little Lehigh Creek through the Sanctuary. While floating, you will see ducks but also fish directly underneath you. If you decide to take younger children, the Sanctuary provides flotation devices at no charge. For a relaxing day on the creek, the cost for adults is just $10 and $5 for kids.
Concert in the Park
Just imagine taking your lunch to an Allentown Park and being entertained with a concert. Especially if you have a stressful job, this is a great way to unwind and rejuvenate before heading back to tackle work-related challenges. Officially called “Lively Lunches in the Park Concert Series,” this event is held every Tuesday and Friday, starting at noon and going until 1:30 p.m. Best of all, the concert series is free for people of all ages. If you plan to drive, you can choose the provided parking ramp or metered street parking. Instead of an ordinary lunch, grab a co-worker and enjoy a concert in the park.
On Tuesday, August 22nd, the 2nd Annual Wings Over Hazelton Car Show starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 8 p.m. at the Hazleton Regional Airport. You will get to see not only a huge variety of custom, classic, and collectible streel-legal automobiles, but also cool trucks, sports cars, muscle cars, and even pre-1946 military vehicles.
The car show is part of the 2017 Collings Foundation “Wings of Freedom Tour,” which takes place on the same day, as well as the 21st and 23rd. During that event, you will also see an authentic pair of World War II era bombers, including a B-17 Flying Fortress, and a B-24 Liberator, the only one in the world fully restored, as well as a P-51D Mustang fighter, B-25 Mitchell medium bomber, and more.
